Rhyl High School Celebrate Success at G2G

For several weeks a group of Rhyl High School pupils have been attending G2G Communities CIC at its learning centre in the Bee and Station Business Centre in order to gain industry recognised qualifications. These include; City and Guilds; British Computer Society and Agored Cymru OCC’s.

To fulfil some of the assessment criteria for some of the IT qualifications pupils have used the LEGO WeDo and WeDo 2.0 robotics kits to build and programme their own robots. Some exciting and innovative robots were designed and programmed during the past two weeks and before the presentation of the certificates the Deputy Head Mr Ellis said ‘I am extremely impressed with the robots I have seen today and the way you have all worked together to achieve such impressive results’ ‘It is my pleasure to be able to present you with your City and Guilds certificates today and be able to see the work you have been doing to achieve further qualifications in the future’.

The City and Guilds certificates were presented by the Deputy Head Mr Ellis with the Head of Year Mr Dennis.

Llandudno Church Project

G2G Communities CIC has been working with St Pauls Church, children and staff from Springfield Day Nursery in Llandudno to recreate the story of Noha’s Ark in song and animation. The children made several animated video’s using LEGO moviemaker and iPads.

They then had one session learning and singing the Noha’s Ark song ‘The animals went in two by two’ and this was used as the backing track for the animated video.

The children had lots of fun building, videoing and singing during the four one hour sessions and came up with some great ideas for the story.

All SySTEMs Go Teacher Training

In preparation of the ‘All SySTEMs Go’ robotics competitions on the 8th and 9th of March 2018 ten primary and ten secondary school teachers attended two training sessions held at the LEGO education Innovation Studio in the Bee and Station Business Centre, Rhyl.

On Monday 6th February, primary school teachers were introduced to the LEGO WeDo 2.0 robots and spent the day building and programming them. On Monday 13th February, secondary school teachers built and programmed the more advanced EV3 robots.

Both groups received one robotics kit to use in their school to prepare pupils for the March 2018 competitions. It is hoped that over 120 pupils and staff will be present at both the primary and secondary competitions and there will also be an opportunity to look round some of the display stands and discuss the Space / robotics industry with some of the key players in the industry.
